Vägbeskrivning
It is one of the most beautiful hikes i did in Lebanon. A combination of 3 well-maintained trails: Part of the Hermitages trail (links Hardine to Tannourine Cedars reserve), part of the LMT section 9 (Bazoun - Tannourine) and part of the Mills trail (Tannourine el Tahta - Tannourine el Fawqa). Starting from Tannourine el Tahta near St Antonios church, we climbed some stairs before hitting a beautiful trail (red and blue signs). The ascent is gradual and regular hikers won't feel it. Sceneries are magnificient and the sound of Nahr el Joz in the valley is relaxing. Lot of ruins on the way and you can see "Joz Tannourine camping" in the valley. At some point trail, you will start noticing on the other side of the valley, a very ugly white building that doesn't even deserve to be in a city! I can't believe that something like that can be built overlooking a historical stunning valley. Try to forget this and continue your way to "Ain er Raha" and "Saydet el Najat" where you will find some nice chalets. After crossing a bridge, a moderate climb will lead you to "Ain el Jaouze", a common point for "Hermitages trail", LMT section 9 and "The Valley trail". Have some fresh cold water at the fountain and continue following the LMT signs (Section 9 from Bazoun to Tannourine). This part of the hike is stunning and the rocky trail goes under the majestic "Chir Er Ribazi", a well-known climbing site. The ascent is steeper here till reaching the highest point of the hike (around 1700). At this point, you will enjoy another set of beautiful sceneries: Harissa, Jerd el Akoura, Saydet el Qarn and Ehmej mountains. The descent to Tannourine el Fawqa is easy and follows mainly water channels. After a pleasant walk in the village, we left the LMT and joined the Mills trail. A beautiful roman bridge is first encountered. At some point, you can either continue your way up to "Chatine" and Balouh Baatara, or down back to "Tannourine el Tahta" following asphalt and dirt roads. I highly recommend this hike for all hikers looking for a variety of sceneries and terrains. Enjoy this superb loop and keep it clean.
