Rosans is a small medieval village on the border of the Drome and the Hautes Alpes, situated in the heart of the Parc Naturel Regional des Baronnies Provencales.
It is dominated by the Serre du Suquet with its 1098m. towering above the tiny village.
In this village time seems to have stood still, for instance as shown by the old faded signs for shops and cafés that closed down long ago.
The medieval atsmosphere will envelop you as you enter the town and walk through the the alleys.
Like Nyons, not too far way, this village is certainly worth an exploration on foot. There are many tiny alleys that are filled with nooks and crannies, ancient houses and stairs that lead to nowhere.
In the middle of the village you will come across the square tower, called the Saracen tower, that was built in the thirteenth century.
Rosans has been partly restored and renovated, but many of the houses still breathe the medieval atmosphere.
This walk is through a part of the green Valley of Oule, hilly with plenty of trees. We took a yellow marked trail for a while from the parking place in the village but did not really follow it. There are quite a few small roads in the valley, some of them dirt roads, but this walk is for the greatest part along paved roads. The views surrounding you are very nice, however.
