Kisdon loop from Keld — Yorkshire Dales National Park
This route starts in the delightful village of Keld, with its free heritage centre, old church, and quaint houses. Most importantly, it has a car park, with toilets, that is good value at £2 for a short stay or £3 for a long stay (2024). The money is to be placed in a gate mounted honesty box.
As for the route, it is simple enough with no undue problems. Follow the GPS trail, and the route goes onto good, wide tracks (bridleway) that are easy to follow and that go uphill steadily but surely. When you leave the track for the top, follow the wall (a bit boggy) until you are near the summit, and then there is a break in this wall to go over to the small summit cairn and nearby stone tower. I wish I could say something about the views, but I didn’t get any. Retrace your steps back to the path and continue to follow the GPS trail. In a short while, you will be heading north on the Pennine Way along North Gang Scarr, a picturesque escarpment that overlooks the Swale River. After this is the aquatic scenic interlude of a visit to East Gill Force and Kisdon Force waterfalls before you finish back at Keld.
Parking: Good car park at start point.
