Kepler Track day 1 (with caves and waterfall)

Due to a lack of time, we decided to organize the Kepler Track in 2 days and 1 night, reducing its total distance by avoiding the first and last kilometers that run through the forest and that may be less interesting, considering that the trail has many kilometers in length. this type of landscape. To reduce the mileage we started the trail in Broadbay for which we took a boat in Te Anau in the morning at 8.30 that we hired with Fiordland Outdoors and which takes less than 10 minutes to arrive. The other section that we avoid is the last 9.5 km by taking a bus in Rainbow Ranch.
After disembarking at Broadbay beach, we began the ascent through the forest towards Luxmore Hut. After little more than a climb we leave the forest and enter an area of ​​grassland with spectacular views of lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. Then the path becomes almost flat until it goes up again towards Luxmore Hut where we arrive and take the opportunity to rest and leave our backpacks for a short excursion to the Luxmore caves, a visit that is definitely worth it.
After returning to the refuge, we take our backpacks and continue the route towards Luxmore Peak, where we have one of the best views of the route and which requires us to deviate a few hundred meters from the route, making it somewhat longer but worth it.
We then continue the route descending towards Forestburn Hut and shortly after we begin a new ascent along a path with always spectacular views to the beginning of the famous ridge with panoramic views on both sides until we reach Hanging Valley Hut, a point at which a descent begins. along an even more spectacular ridge with flights of stairs and non-stop photo taking. The path ends almost at the end of the mountain ridge to turn right and begin a zig zag descent towards Irishburn Hut, entering a few hundred meters into an increasingly dense wooded area that will accompany us almost without interruption until finish the route the next day.
After arriving at Irishburn Hut and choosing our bunks and leaving our backpacks, we make one last effort and approach Irishburn Falls as we still had a while before preparing dinner, even giving us time to take a bath in the river near the hut. , although you have to do it quickly because the sandflies are really unbearable.
The distance of this day could be significantly reduced if you avoid the visit to Luxmore Caves, Luxmore Peak and Irishburn Falls, being according to the Track brochure and what I was able to calculate about 23 kilometers instead of the 30 that we did.
The Kepler Track is undoubtedly an impressive route with a variety of landscapes and unrivaled aerial views, although if I had to choose between Routeburn and Kepler tracks, I would be unable to do it.

Al no contar con muchos días, decidímos organizar el Kepler Track en 2 días y 1 noche, reduciendo su distancia total evitando los primeros y los últimos kilómetros que discurren por el bosque y que pueden resultar menos interesantes, considerando que el sendero tiene muchísimos kilométros en éste tipo de paisaje. Para reducir el kilometraje iniciamos el sendero en Broadbay para lo que tomamos un barco en Te Anau por la mañana a las 8.30 que contratamos con Fiordland Outdoors y que tarda menos de 10 minutos en llegar. El otro tramo que evitamos es el último de 9,5 kms tomando un autobus en Rainbow Ranch.

Tras desembarcar en la playa de Broadbay, comenzamos el ascenso por el bosque hacia Luxmore Hut. Tras poco más de una subida salimos del bosque y nos adentramos en una zona de pastizal con vistas espectaculares hacia los lagos Te Anau y Manapouri. Entonces el camino se va haciendo casi llano hasta que vuelve a subir hacia Luxmore Hut donde llegamos y aprovechamos para descansar y dejar las mochilas para hacer una pequeña excursión a las cuevas de Luxmore, una visita que merece la pena sin duda.
Tras regresar al refugio, tomamos las mochilas y continuamos la ruta hacia Luxmore Peak, donde tenemos una de las mejores vistas de la ruta y que obliga a desviarse unos cientos de metros de la ruta, haciéndola algo más larga pero merece la pena.
A continuación continuamos la ruta descendiendo hacia Forestburn Hut para poco después iniciar un nuevo ascenso por un sendero con vistas siempre espectaculares hasta el inicio del famoso crestarío con vistas panorámicas a ambos lados hasta llegar a Hanging Valley Hut, punto en el cual se inicia un descenso por una cresta aún más espectacular con tramos de escaleras y sin parar de tomar fotos. El sendero termina casi al final de la cresta de la montaña para girar a la derecha e iniciar un descenso en zig zag hacia Irishburn Hut, adentrándonos a unos cientos de metros en una zona boscosa cada vez más densa que ya nos acompañará casi sin interrupción hasta finalizar la ruta al día siguiente.
Tras llegar a Irishburn Hut y elegir nuestras literas y dejar nuestras mochilas, hacemos un último esfuerzo y nos acercamos a Irishburn Falls pues aún nos quedaban un buen rato antes de preparar la cena, dándonos incluso tiempo para darnos un baño en el río cerca del refugio, aunque hay que hacerlo rápido porque las sandflies son realmente insoportables.
La distancia de éste día podría reducirise notablemente si se evita la visita a Luxmore Caves, Luxmore Peak y Irishburn Falls, siendo según el folleto del Track y lo que yo pude calcular de unos 23 kilómetros en lugar de los 30 que nosotros hicimos.
Kepler Track es sin duda una ruta impresionante con gran variedad de paisajes y unas vistas aéreas inigualables, aunque si tuviera que elegir en Routeburn y Kepler, sería incapaz de hacerlo.
