I made 3 mistakes on my goal to hike Goat Mountain: 1) I started at 5:30AM, and I should have started a couple of hours earlier. 2) I missed the faint trail to Grouse Lake. However, I found the correct route on my way back from Grouse Lake, so use this route on your way to Grouse Lake. 3) Once I hiked above Grouse Lake, I should have aimed for the saddle between Munger Peak and Goat Mountain, and then hiked the ridge up to Goat Mountain.
Also, this is a very dry year. The only source of non-murky water was at Grouse Lake, and some of the streams above Grouse Lake.
I'll make another attempt to hike Goat Mountain next year. Also, Grouse Lake is very nice. I saw plenty of trout swimming in the lake. And there were no people at the lake.

VERY well done!!! I want to attempt this hike again in about a month. How sketchy was the route from Grouse Lake to the top? That part of the Sierra Nevada Mountains is so beautiful...
